Peterson’s Grocery and Convenience Stores has been serving Portland since 1984, providing nourishment and hydration for hundreds of people a day. Construction workers, Office workers, Local Residents, and Tourists alike, are among the many, whom we have built personal relationships with for over 30 years.

This website is all about Saving Peterson’s from losing it’s tenancy at SW 10th and Morrison St. A location where we have been established for over 30 years, and have made many close friendships with Customers throughout this time. Now with the imminent 10th and Yamhill Garage Renovation around the corner, our tenancy is at risk.  Stay tuned to this website for updates on this matter, and our ‘David and Goliath’ battle with the City of Portland.

Late 1980’s-Early 1990’s

Location, location, location.

Peterson’s on Morrison was opened in 1984 by Douglas Peterson, who spent many years working for Fred Meyer Grocery, setting up stores all over the Northwest. He knew that location at SW 10th and Morrison would be a great spot to build a business, and boy was he right. Peterson’s has seen many businesses come and go, but his successful business model has always weathered the storm, and proven that it’s possible for small businesses to succeed, an endeavor of which has always been regarded as a priority by the City of Portland and it’s Leaders, those of which who will be deciding if Peterson’s get to stay, or if he has to go.

Peterson’s wants to continue on as a tenant, right through the construction phase due to the fact we are in the middle of the building, and the majority of the construction/renovation will take place on the corners of the buildings/stairwells and elevators.

Peterson’s has over 900 customers daily, and will be one of the first MAX stop locations to offer the upgraded HOP FastPass card and refill location when TRIMET ends cash ticket buying.

Peterson’s is recognized by the City of Portland’s Commission on Disability for “Making a Difference” by offering employment opportunities to those with disabilities, which include some of our current staff-members.

Peterson’s has always been proud to take part in the Downtown Neighborhood Associations’ National Night Out Celebration by providing all the Beverages, Water and Ice to keep everyone happily hydrated while enjoying tasty BBQ prepared by members of the Portland Fire Department.  Being a member of this community is what makes us thrive!
